Flashback Friday: Before Pink Was Pink.

Here’s this week’s Flashback Friday:

I made the little pink number above sometime in Junior High.  Grade nine maybe?  It was before pink was actually cool, and a normal color to wear.  I guess what I’m basically saying is that my dress started a worldwide trend.  Cause I was so cool, as you can tell from my flashbacks.  Awkward.  All I know is I LOVED pink, and wanted a pink dress.  The funny thing is that the dress was always just a smidge too tight on me, so some of my friend’s got a lot more use out of it than I ever did.  I was talking to SaraLyn (the pinkie on the left) the other day and commented that I wondered what ever happened to that dress that we all loved (at the time, of course :)).  Well apparently she really did love it because she said she saw it in her closet at her parent’s house recently.  Now I remember finally giving up hope that it would ever fit me and letting her keep it.

Even though they weren’t the reason for this flashback, I also made the dress on the left (wowsers, I think I must have had a lot of sun that summer) and the skirt on the right.  In the picture on the right with dear Jayna, the vintage turquoise fabric came straight from the seventies.  For some reason I think it was an entire dress at one point, but I really can’t remember how I ended up with it.  Why I chose to pair the skirt with a pink dress shirt will remain a mystery.

  1. I’m totally impressed. Sleeves, , darts, and in the picture it looks like maybe a pocket or button …. (i especially love the denim dress)I think when I was that age I might have been able to figure out how to turn on the sewing machine and sew a straight line by myself. might.

  2. I loved wearing that dress! I always really liked the shade of pink and if I remember correctly it was nicely lined with pink satin. Oh, Abby… I remeber always being so amazed at how well you sewed and I still am!

P.S.It was fun seeing that pic. :)
