Filing Cabinet: Before

If there’s one thing that Joel loves, it’s hauling back furniture for me from Canada for me to makeover. Loves it. Okay, not true, but I sure love it. We spent that last few weeks up in Canada (more on that later), and Joel’s parents wanted to get rid of a little filing cabinet that they don’t use anymore.

Of course I jumped at the chance. Heaven forbid I turn down any opportunity to paint furniture. I think this time around I’ll actually keep the original hardware, I like the vintage-y look and exposed screws.

My plan is to use the cabinet for all of my sewing related papers and patterns. I still have to decide what color to paint it… I’m thinking green like this dresser? Or I could go blue like Wyatt’s bed and dresser, but I don’t think that would fit as well in a sewing room. Not quite girly enough. I’m leaning towards green, what do you think?

  1. Hey! That’s my filing cabinet that sits right here beside the desk. Unfortunatel, my husband loves wood grain and can’t fathom painting wood. I’ll wait for the after pictures and live vicariously through you!

  2. I like the green but I wouldn’t mind it lighter so the grain shows through, more like a tint I guess. ah it’s cute, whatever you do will look good.

  3. I can’t wait to see what you do with it. And I’m impressed your husband brought it back for you. We were offered my grandfather’s piano just after moving into this house, for free, just had to move it ourselves. I know pianos are huge and heavy and all, but my husband refused to do it. sigh. Still love him, though.

  4. Hmm, a varnish will make it look formal but dull. Green is a good idea, but it is best to choose a color that will fit your house’s environment. And I hope you’ll be in good terms with your hubby. Have a happy painting. :)
