Dolman Boat Neck Top

I ventured out to JoAnn the other night, which is rare nowdays since it’s twice as far from where I live as it was when we were in Utah. It was probably the 5th night in a row that I had intentions of going after the kids were in bed, but when it comes down to going, I’m usually too tired and opt to sit on the couch instead :).

So luckily I finally made it, and found this fun purple and gray leopard print in the clearance racks. I had some other knit fabric in my cart, but gladly went for the leopard print instead. I’ve had a dolman sleeved top on my want-to-make list for awhile, and after less than an hour of sewing, I had one!

There are a number of dolman sleeve top tutorials online, so if you’re wanting to make an easy top for yourself, check them out (it was precisely all these tutorials that gave me the urge to make one for myself!):

For my shirt, I loosely traced a shirt I had on hand. I also bound the neckline with a strip of the same fabric, with the raw edge exposed on the right side of the shirt, and added some small pleats to the neckline. I figured when you’re sewing with animal print, anything goes, right? I also made a band around the bottom of the shirt, to pull the bottom in. All in all, I’m happy with how it turned out. I learned a few things along the way about what I’d do differently next time, and can’t wait to make more!
