Another recent JoAnn clearance isle find was this black/gray buffalo plaid. I bought enough to make a pair of shorts for each of my boys, and since Weston has been a bit short changed in the handmade department lately, I made his first.
This was my first and only KCW project, and I’m finally only blogging about it now, but one is better than none, right?
I decided to draft the shorts myself, since it would be something new for me, and really enjoyed it. I used a pair of his shorts as a guide.
I also added a faux fly and button. For Wyatt’s pair I think I’ll add a functioning zip fly and button if I’m feeling not so lazy.
The waistband is adjustable with buttonhole elastic, which is a necessity for a growing boy.
I’m thrilled with how these turned out. Usually I regret not making a muslin first with projects like this, but this was one of those (rare) times when almost everything worked out as I had imagined.
And Weston wears the shorts as often as I’ll let him, which makes both of us happy!
I would say that he likes the shorts better than he likes modelling, lol. He’s a good sport though, and secretly I think he enjoyed it.
One thing’s for sure, this boy is our little drama… king? Always full of emotion in one way or another.
And the sunglasses were all Weston. I wasn’t going to mess with that face. So… Since I’ll be grading the pattern for Wyatt’s pair, I’m thinking of making it into a full pattern if I could get it done in time for summer. What do you think?
