Schoolboy Vests for Christmas

Schoolboy Vest Pattern I don’t sew for my boys nearly as often as I used to, so it’s always fun when I have an excuse. I made them each a Schoolboy Vest to wear with their Christmas outfits, and I can’t wait to show you the girl’s dresses soon!

I found all of the plaid flannel from Jo-Ann, and lined both vests with black quilting cotton found at Jo-Ann as well. I knew the flannel might be tricky to sew with something slinky because of the way it stretches, so I thought a more stable lining would be best.

I love that this pattern is quick to whip up, even with the addition of the real welt pockets (the pattern has options for faux welt pockets as well if you want to make them even quicker to make). My boys always prefer real welt pockets, and I love the look of them so much that I think it’s worth the extra time. I cut the pockets and back ties on the bias to break up the plaid a bit.

It was weird to cut out a size 8 pattern for Wyatt. It made me realize how old he’s gotten, and it’s hard to believe!

As you know, I have used these metal buttons on anything and everything (including their vests last year and the year before), and they’re still my favorite! I tried to find something different for these vests for the sake of using something different ;), but I just couldn’t find anything I liked better, hehe. It will be a sad, sad day when I use them all!

Weston’s bowtie may also look familiar, as I made it three Christmases ago and he’s worn it with his Christmas outfits two out of the last three years. You can find Christie’s tutorial for making your own here. Wyatt opted for a tie this year, which I found at Target.

These two boys are mostly good buddies, which is both wonderful and exhausting, lol! They are great helpers with my girls though, and I just love them so much.
