Emerald Maxi Skirt

Last week I showed you the pencil case I made for my niece Paisley while she was visiting. We also spent an hour or so making a maxi skirt for her first day of college.

I had picked up this emerald green (it’s more emerald than it looks in these photos) at Michael Levine during Fabric Weekend, not knowing exactly what I’d use it for until Paisley and I searched through my stash of knits.

We added a simple yoga style waistband, and my only regret is that I wish the fabric had a bit better stretch recovery. The downside to using such a soft knit was that the skirt grew in length once Paisley started wearing it, which isn’t super ideal since she lives in rainy Vancouver. I guess she may need to come visit again for an adjustment :).

As I’m sure many of you can relate to, I don’t often have the time to sew for other than my kids, so I really enjoyed making this for such a darling girl and taking photos of her. Paisley is a beauty inside and out, and I’m lucky to have her for a niece!

  1. Making maxi skirts is my favorite way to spend an hour. I do the yoga waistband and then the highly technical method of eyeballing an a- line. Having my stash made a summer pregnancy bearable and they still look good with the post- partum pooch. Thanks to whoever started this trend!!

  2. Such a lovely maxi skirt! The color is green, and it reminds me that my mothers maxi project for me has not been completed. Hopefully she gets excited to finish it like you were excited to make this for Paisley!
