Polka Dot Polly Peasant Dress

Polly Peasant Dress

I love any excuse to sew a baby dress, so when a friend of mine recently had a baby girl, I already knew just what I wanted to give her. I made this little Polly Peasant Dress out of some Riley Blake Ombre Dot.

I’ve had the fabric for quite some time, but never found the right project for it. To be honest, I am normally not a huge ombre fan (although my hair would tell you differently – at what point can you claim your roots are a deliberate ombre look? ;)), but I love how it looks in this dress. I made size 3-6m, which I usually do when I give a dress for a baby gift. That way there’s plenty of time for it to be worn before it’s outgrown, even if the baby has lots of loveable chubbiness.

Since there’s enough going on between the polka dots and ombre effect, I wanted to pair it with a simple design. I had already planned on making Hattie a Polly Peasant Dress for Christmas, so the pattern was on my mind. I’m so happy with how the pairing ended up, and it always feels so great to use up fabric from my stash!

Scallops are definitely one of my very favorite design elements, in any pattern. They always seem to add the perfect amount of detail to a hemline, without being too fussy. And for the record, the scallop facing was pressed completely to the underside, it’s just flared out a bit in these photos. Had to mention it… :) Anyway, I love how this little gift turned out, and now I think my girls need a couple more too!

    1. Hi Aubrey! I don’t have a tutorial posted on the blog, but the pattern has templates and detailed instructions for making the scallops :).

  1. I just bought your pattern this morning, and was shocked and how easy the scallops are to do. I can’t wait to try it…trying to talk my almost 3 year old into naptime so I can make one for baby sister. :) I absolutely love it done in the polka dots. I will have to just whip out tons of these. I love the size range of the pattern by the way. I could make some for all the girl cousins in our family.

  2. Abby,

This is the cutest dress. I just completed making my granddaughter’s Easter dress, using the 3-6 mos. size. I appliqued an Easter bunny on it and I am very pleased with the way it turned out. My DIL is pleased, as well. Thank you so much for such a great and easy to follow pattern.
