Flamingo Skirt

This is one of the simplest projects I’ve sewn in awhile, and, in fact, one of the simplest skirts that can be sewn, but somehow it’s still one of my favorites! Or maybe that’s why it’s one of my favorites ;)…

Fabric can really make or break a project, and this Anne Kelle Zoologie flamingo print was begging to be made into a skirt for Lola. I made a dress for Hattie a dress with it last spring after Anne was so sweet to send some to play with, and was so happy to have just enough left over for this project.

Lola LOVES to wear this skirt. Flamingos + pink + skirt = a big thumbs up in her eyes. It’s one of the few things that I never have to convince her to wear, which is a big thumbs up in my eyes :).

For toddler girls, I like to use the entire 44-45″ width of fabric, and then just cut the length I’d like plus hem and elastic casing allowance. It doesn’t get much easier than that! Jess has a detailed tutorial with illustrations here if you need it.

On another note, the new Airdrie Bag pattern is in testing! It was so close to being done, and then I took an unintended break from it over the summer. You know how that goes… But I’m super grateful to have an amazing group of ladies testing it for me, and it shouldn’t be too much longer before it’s released. Hopefully not longer than two or three weeks from now.

  1. I find that at times simple things are the best. My daughter’s fave skirt is a wide rectangle of quilting cotton sewed on one side with lace at the bottom. 30 minute job for me, 2 summers of endless joy for her :)

    1. I totally agree! I find that I’m much less worried about something getting ruined or stained at the playground, etc, when I didn’t have to invest much time into making it – and then we ALL get to enjoy it more!

  2. Such a cute skirt. I LOVE flamingos so I’m always super excited to not only see flamingo fabric, but see it being used and worn!
