The Fringe Dress Pattern

I often have good intentions of sewing a newly released pattern, but almost as often have trouble finding the time to actually sew it – ha! But when Gabriela from Chalk and Notch was working on the Fringe Dress Pattern and I kept seeing all the amazing tester versions, I knew I needed to make one ASAP once the pattern was released.

I’ve been wearing my knit dolman dress a lot, and I was excited to have another comfortable, easy to wear, yet flattering dress in my closet.

Gabriella generously gifted me the pattern, and because a women’s pdf dress pattern has so many pages to tape together, I ordered a copy shop print from PDF Plotting, which was super easy to do and so handy rather than assembling pages!

To find the perfect fabric, I headed to my favorite online fabric shop, Raspberry Creek Fabric (affiliate link). When I saw this navy and white tie dye rayon challis, I knew it would be perfect, and when it arrived it didn’t disappoint! I love the look of the fabric with my hat (found at Old Navy).

I decided to sew view A, but add the ties to the front darts rather than the back.

One thing I love about this design is the buttons are not needed for function, so I omitted the buttonholes on both the bodice and sleeves, and just sewed the buttons on through all layers. I will never complain about saving time sewing ;).

I wanted to make sure I had the length and coverage I wanted, so after looking through many sewn Fringes online and reading the finished measurements, I added two inches to the front and back center hem, and also extended the side hem lengths to reduce the difference between the two (my finished difference between the side and hem is 2.5-3″). This adjustment turned out perfect for the look I was hoping for.

This pattern was definitely a pleasure to sew, and came together beautifully. The instructions and illustrations were very clear, and the construction methods are so professional.

I’m already itching to sew another Fringe Dress, and perhaps try out some of the other options!
