Blush Fabrics + Sullivan Dress

When Dana from Made Everyday recently asked me if I’d like to sew with some of her new fabric line designs, Blush Fabrics, it only took me -.35seconds to say yes! Lola has recently outgrown almost all of her dresses, and I knew Dana’s retro-modern designs would be perfect for a new Sullivan Dress.

I chose the Hex Rose to coordinate, partly because I love how it looks with the Cat Nap, but also because I selfishly just really love the print! The pink, gold, and white are such a pretty combo and I love the modern geometric look.

Lola is now measuring a size 4 in width and 5 in height, but I sewed a straight size 5 so that she’d have room to grow and also so Hattie would be able to wear the dress down the road as well (she’s proportionate width/height wise and often grows out of Lola’s dresses at the same time as Lola ;)). There isn’t a ton of ease drafted into the Sullivan Dress, so I knew the extra width would be fine.

I love the feel of Art Gallery cottons – they are lightweight but crisp, if that makes any sense! I hadn’t sewn with any since I made Lola’s Butterfly Magrath Dress, but was reminded how nice they are to sew with.

For this dress, I chose the knee length version. I was tempted to make a maxi length dress, but thought I should save that for a darker print to avoid stains. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t so practically minded…

The pattern has both sleeveless and tulip sleeve options, but I obviously chose the tulip sleeves – I have to admit they’re my favorite and I love the simple detail that it adds to the design.

I finished the dress with a gold/wood button for the back keyhole closure. My girls requested a purple button but I vetoed that idea ;).

Lola is thrilled with her new dress, and I know it will get worn every chance she has!

  1. What a pretty dress! Yes, my daughters would love the kitty fabric too. I think I would have gone for the knee length for the same practical reasons :) This is my fave sleeve option for this dress also, such a sweet detail!
