2017 Christmas Dresses

One of my very most favorite things to do every Christmas is to sew my kids Christmas outfits and take photos of them. I typically make at least one of my sons a Schoolboy Vest, and often a bowtie or two, but this year I focused on my girls and went shopping for the boys (with one small exception I’ll explain below). It was actually really fun getting to concentrate on my girls, and I’m planning to share free patterns for both of their dresses soon!

I cherish the photos from each year, and love looking back and seeing how much they’ve grown, how much the styles have changed, and how my photography has changed as well. You can see 2012 here and here, 2013 here, 2014 here and here, 2015 here and here, 2016 here, here and here.

Because I have plans to share free patterns for my girls dresses (hopefully early in the New Year), I won’t go into too much detail about them today. I wanted a flowy, light, and airy feel for the outfits and photos, and found all the fabrics from Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores. It took two trips for me to actually decide on what I wanted – the first time I came home with a million new ideas and a phone full of fabric photos, hehe. I had to remind myself of my original goal before I went back ;).

I wanted the two dresses to be similar but not matching, so gave each the same ruffle sleeve and neckline but adjusted the bodice designs on each to be unique. I figured since 2017 was the year of the sleeve, I needed to take the opportunity to enjoy it!

I found both of my girls shoes at Old Navy – I just wish I could find a pair of blue velvet booties for myself!

It’s super handy that my girls are the exact same chest measurement right now, so it made it easy to adjust the pattern for each of them.

Although Weston and Wyatt’s outfits were purchased thanks to Gap and Old Navy, I realized Weston needed a bow tie to coordinate. In my laziness, I didn’t want to sew one, so I made a felt one with hot glue and it did the trick. I actually loved the body that the felt gave the bowtie without having to add any interfacing etc – it was such a quick and easy project!

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and holidays and are able to spend quality time with your family and friends!
