Girl's Peplum Top Pattern: Floral Edition

What?! A floral and peplum combo? I know, totally unheard of from me. Okay, if you’ve read this blog for any amount of time, you know that’s opposite of the truth, but there’s something so girly about peplums and floral, so I probably won’t stop any time soon. I of course used our girl’s peplum top pattern, the Pretty in Peplum Pattern, and it’s been a favorite of my girls’ this summer.

The summer has flown by here, and I can’t believe the kids will be back in school before long. Just before school ended for the year, I shared this peplum top and dress I made my girls, and somehow I haven’t posted again until now, which is probably one of my longest blogging breaks ever. I had sewn and photographed this peplum top at the same time as the others, and it feels good to be back and sharing it with you!

And speaking of school and blogging, I’ll be hitting a major milestone this fall, with Wyatt starting middle school — side note, I first started Sew Much Ado as a hobby when he was a baby, and had to go hunt down the first pic I ever shared of him here – how did he turn into this almost 12 year old?? —

…and Hattie starting kindergarten. This means I’ll be kid free during the day for the first time in 12 years, which I’m both excited about and kind of freaking out about. My kids didn’t do formal preschool and we haven’t lived near family, so it’s been pretty rare for me to have alone time during the day, and I’m not 100% what that will look or feel like yet, haha! I have a feeling I’ll get used to it pretty quickly though, and I do have lots (probably too many) of blog related plans, so we’ll see how that all takes shape in the coming months. If you’ve been through this transition and have advice, I’ll gladly accept it!

Back to this sweet girl’s peplum top pattern. I used a cotton lycra from Raspberry Creek Fabrics that they brought back as a fabric of the week in the spring, and knew I needed to use part of it for a peplum top. Raspberry Creek Fabrics always has the prettiest florals, and I don’t think I could ever buy too much of my favorite prints!

I intended to add some extra length to the bodice for this top, as Hattie’s tall for her age, but I think I *may* have forgotten while cutting. Luckily the Pretty in Peplum Pattern is generous in length as is, so she’ll still be able to get lots of wear out of it.
