Cutting Fabric with the Cricut Maker + Rotary Blade

Cricut Maker Rotary Blade

Hi creative friends! Over the past while, I’ve shared a number of sewing tutorials where I’ve included cutting fabric with the Cricut Maker, thanks to the rotary blade. Along the way, I’ve had a lot of you reach out with questions about how exactly the rotary blade works, and wondering if it’s something that they should be using in their own crafting and sewing (short answer, yes!). Stocking Pattern – Free!

How to Make a Stocking for Christmas

If you’re like me, and a week before Christmas you realize that you’ve once again slacked on getting those new stockings made, today’s post is for you! A peek waaay back in this blog reminded me that our previous stockings were made in 2009, when we only had 2 kids! So my little girls have been borrowing Joel and I’s stockings their entire lives (complete with our initials) – until now! Cause better late than never? So today I’m teaching you how to make stockings for Christmas, and sharing a stocking pattern (free!) and tutorial with you that you can use to make your own and be sooo on the ball like I am this year. A Pretty in Peplum Christmas Dress

Girl's Christmas Dress Pattern

Today’s posts are by far my favorite of the year! Each year I spend way to much time daydreaming about my kids’ Christmas outfits, picking out the perfect fabrics, sewing everything, and then finally photographing it all! This year got a little extra complicated because I decided to add my husband and I into the photos (normally I let us off the hook at Christmas time but it had been over three years since our last whole-family photos), but we did it! Since there’s a lot to share, I’m dividing up the girls’ dresses into separate posts (click to read all about Lola’s Ainsley Pinafore Dress and hacked Pretty in Peplum Top), and the boys’ into a post of their own as well (hop over there to see our family photo!). So this post is all about my sweet Hattie and the gold dress I made her using our Pretty in Peplum Dress pattern. [Read more…]

Ainsley Pinafore Dress Pattern

Girl's Pinafore Dress Pattern

This was such a fun dress to sew! The majority of Christmas outfits I sew are using my own patterns, but when I happened to come across the Ainsley Pinafore pattern by JillyAtlanta, it had me at hello. The low scoop neckline, the ruffle straps, the back buttons – I loved every detail! It was the girl’s pinafore dress pattern that I had been dreaming of :). [Read more…]

Schoolboy Boy’s Vest Pattern + Everyday Boy’s Necktie Pattern

Boys Sewing Patterns

We’re almost through all of my kids Christmas outfits! Rounding out my girls’ dresses (you can see Lola’s pinafore dress here and Hattie’s peplum dress here), this post is all about the little men in my life. Well, one of them is getting not-so-little, but for now I’m just going to hold on to the time until he’s taller than me! I made Weston my favorite boys vest pattern, a Schoolboy Vest, and Wyatt an Everyday Necktie (pattern by Dana from Made Everyday) for Christmas this year, and as usual, Weston made sure we didn’t have a dull moment in our photoshoot. He’s also the reason we literally got one good family photo out of hundreds, lol. [Read more…]
