Both the outer seersucker fabric for this bag and the chenille used on the ears and tail were found at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores. I guess Lola is happy with my choice of chenille ;).

I was able to squeak out the lining from my last bit of Urban Zoologie that Ann Kelle was so kind to send me last year. I also used it for the lining of the free bunny backpack pattern I released last year, and I was excited to get to use it on another bag!

Supplies:
main fabric – 1/2yd
lining fabric – 1/3yd
contrast fabric (for ears and tail – fleece, chenille, or faux fur recommended) – 1/4yd
embroidery floss (for face)
fusible woven interfacing (Pellon SF101 recommended) – 1/2yd
polyfill for stuffing tail

Click here to download and print pattern pieces. Print at 100%, and check 1″ test square on page 1 to ensure printing accuracy.

*All seam allowances are 1/2″ unless otherwise noted.*

Cut out fabric as directed on pattern pieces (do not cut face template from fabric). Attach interfacing to wrong side of respective main fabric pieces and mark dart placements.

Transfer face template to center of front main fabric piece. Embroider face using desired stitch.

Folding fabric right sides together (RST), stitch all darts on front/back main fabric and lining fabric pieces. Press main fabric and lining fabric darts in opposing directions to reduce bulk in finished bag.

RST, pin and stitch one ear main fabric piece to one contrast fabric piece along curved edges, using 1/4″ seam allowance, and leaving top straight edge open. Trim or clip seam allowance, turn ear right side out through opening, and press flat. Repeat with remaining ear pieces.

Use a basting stitch (longest stitch length on machine) to stitch around tail piece, 1/4″ from edge, without backstitching at beginning or end of stitches.

Pull on top threads only to gather edges toward center and forming a pocket. Stuff pocket with polyfil and pull threads tight to close opening. Use thread ends and needle to secure opening closed.

  2. What is the size of the straps width and length. I have mine almost all made but need these measurements to finish. Thanks for the pattern. It is adorable.

    1. Hi Shirley! The measurements to cut the straps are on the pattern pieces, but they need to be cut 4″x15″ – cut 2 from the main fabric and 2 from interfacing :).

    1. Hi! The instructions are designed to be read on a mobile device or computer, but you can try to copy and paste them if you want to print them out (this often doesn’t work well depending on the browser).

  6. Made one this afternoon, ran out of interfacing so used waistband interface instead for straps , worked really well ❤️
