Women’s Oversized Sweatshirt (with Free Pattern!)

I finally got my projector set up in my new sewing room and of course had to immediately try it out with a project! I looked through my stash of knits and decided to make a sweatshirt using our Casey Crop Sweatshirt Free Pattern, but with added length for more of a classic oversized sweatshirt look.

You can see a quick video of the process from start to finish on my Instagram here or my TikTok account here. I’m new to TikTok so have just uploaded a handful of videos, and let’s just say it’s a fun platform but also makes me feel ooooold. I do enjoy the non-curated aspect of it compared to Instagram where everything seems to be more put together and picture perfect.
@sewmuchado I sewed my Casey Crop Sweatshirt Pattern (free on sewmuchado.com) with my sewing projector and added 5โ to the length for the perfect oversized comfy sweatshirt! #sewingtiktok #sewing #freepattern #projectorsewing #caseycrop โฌ The Fate of Ophelia – Taylor Swift
We had an unexpected move from Texas to Utah just over a year ago, and I had waited to put my sewing projector up until we finished our basement and I could set up in my permanent sewing room. Before that, my sewing space was temporarily in our front formal room and that did not fare well with my sewing because it was visible to anyone who came to the front door. While I quite enjoy making a mess while creating, I do have my limits with how many people get to see the mess so my sewing slowed down for a little while ;).

Projector For Sewing
My original projector was giving me trouble while trying to set it up, so I did some research (big thank you to the Projectors for Sewing FB group!), and ended up replacing it with a Magcubic 300Pro (affiliate link). It was super easy to setup and I do need to make the cords a little more aesthetically pleasing still, but it was so fun to sew with a projector again after so long! The Magcubic also gives me a larger projection area than I had before which is a nice bonus.

Women’s Sweatshirt Free Pattern
As I mentioned, I used our Women’s Cropped Sweatshirt Free Pattern for this new sweatshirt, and simply added 5″ to the length to get a non-cropped version. I also added 1″ to the waistband, but think I would have been fine without adding it due to the recovery of the fabric I used. With sizes XS-XXL, the pattern also includes 3 different files: print at home, copy-shop, and a projector file.
You can see the difference in the cropped length vs this version below.

I believe I found the green heathered sweatshirt knit at Walmart at some point. Now that JoAnn has so sadly closed (that deserves a whole blog post on it’s own…), I’m trying to use the fabrics I have in my stash and also be more creative with where to find fabrics.

Now that I have my sewing room in place again (I didn’t say organized ;)) and my sewing projector up and running, there are sure to be many more comfy oversized sweatshirts in my future. You can find the Casey Crop Women’s Sweatshirt Free Pattern HERE to sew your own!
