Butterfly Maggie Mae Dress

Today I’m sharing this little butterfly dress I made for Lola using Shwin Designs’ Maggie Mae Dress pattern. I made Lola one almost two years ago, and it melts my heart to see Hattie wear it now. I actually made a new one for Hattie as well that I’ll be sharing soon. It’s safe to say I love this design :).

I sewed a size 2 with size 3 length, and it fits perfectly on Lola.

I bought the butterfly Kokka fabric from Michael Levine during Fabric Weekend, and have had plans to make Lola a dress with it since then. I paired it with some cotton muslin that I had on hand. It kind of killed me to put the beautiful Kokka fabric with muslin, but they looked so well together that I decided to just go with it.

Using some purple suede scraps that happened to match perfectly, I added a leather triangle detail to each sleeve. My fingers are crossed that the leather won’t bleed terribly onto the dress when it’s washed, but I’m a little nervous.

One of my favorite things about this pattern is that the back is just as cute as the front.

I’m thinking this will end up being Lola’s Easter dress this year… But really, can a girl ever have too many dresses? :)
