Flamingo Maggie Mae Dress

Maggie Mae DressI’ve told you how much I love the Maggie Mae Dress by Shwin Designs, and today I get to share another example of why! You can see the one with leather accents that I recently made for Lola here, and today it’s all about Hattie’s flamingo Maggie Mae dress.

The talented and Ann Kelle sent me a darling package of some of her Urban Zoologie fabrics to play with, and I knew that the flamingo print had to be made into a dress for one of my girls. I also have this bunny fabric waiting to be made into a dress as well.

It took me forever to decide what to pair the flamingos with. I eventually decided on this thin wale corduroy that I picked up an Jo-Ann a while ago. It’s the perfect weight for a dress.

I sewed a size 12-18m. Hattie turns one in a few weeks, and is a bit on the tall side for her age, so I wanted to make sure she had plenty of time to wear the dress. It’s perfect with room to grow.

I used pink snaps that I picked up in the LA fabric district instead of buttons for the back closure. I’ve been waiting for any chance to use the snaps, but they never seemed to work with any projects until now.

Since I took these photos, this little lady is now walking! It’s hard for me to believe, but it is so fun! I always say that I’m not going to encourage my babies to walk, because walking = trouble, but it’s so hard to resist and I definitely did a lot of encouraging this time around. It’s just too darn cute.

Also, it’s time for some new mocassins for Hattie. She’s almost grown out of these ones, and they have been my favorite baby shoes ever. They stay on so well, and (I’m assuming) are super comfortable for her to wear. Plus, they take one second to put on, which gets extra points in my book.
