Flashback Friday: Vanessa

Here’s today’s Flashback Friday
Vanessa from Little Big Girl Studio is sharing her flashback with us today!  Her blog is full of beautiful fabrics, beautiful projects, and a beautiful little girl!  Today we get a glimpse into all of these as we take a walk down memory lane with Vanessa :).

Hi! First, I want to say thank you to Abby for inviting me over today. I’ve spent the past few days browsing through old photos of past sewing projects trying to come up with something for Flashback Friday. No one thing just really stuck out so I figured I’d go back to the beginning. Although I did a bit of sewing back in high school, I never finished anything I started and definitely didn’t wear any of it. It wasn’t until my daughter turned one in February 2008 and I had been a stay at home mom for about a year that I decided to get back into sewing. So, I guess you could say I was inspired to sew by my daughter. You know. . .wanting to make cute clothes for her but also needing some form of mommy stress release! I’ve been sewing nonstop ever since and am loving every minute of it (well, except the minutes I spend vacuuming the random bits of thread and fabric that have taken over my home!!). I’ve learned so much, mostly from all the amazing sewing/crafting bloggers out there and look forward to learning and sewing for years to come.

These are some of the very first things I made for the kiddo (forgot just how tiny she was once was):

Eventually, I decided to branch out into making stuff other than itty bitty clothes. . .

My first zipper! I remember thinking this was like trying to do calculus. I had a hard time wrapping my head around it. I got through it and now have lots and lots of zippers under my belt. This pouch was a gift for my mother who was coming to visit.

Here’s my first “real” purse, a Buttercup bag. I fell in love with making bags after that one.

Thanks again for having me and letting me share a few of my very first sewing projects! If you’d like to see what I’m sewing up these days, stop by my blog and say hello.
