Floral + Leather Seafarer Top
I’m thrilled to be teamed up with Indiesew today for their Spring Collection blog tour. Allie asked if I would make a Seafarer Top for the tour, and since I can never have too many, I jumped at the chance to join in!
Before I get into the details of the top I made, here’s a bit of info about the Spring Collection. Indiesew has put together a bundle of 5 women’s sewing patterns that are perfect for Spring. Included in the bundle are the Jamie Jeans, Sailor Top, Seafarer Top, Marianne Dress, and Envelope Clutch. When you buy them bundled you save over 25%. It’s a great mix of tops, pants, and even an accessory to get you excited for Spring (cause it really is just around the corner, right?). You can read more about the bundle HERE on Indiesew.
For this Seafarer Top, I decided to go with the neckband, sleeve bands, and waistband. For the last couple I’ve made (here and here) I left them off, so this was a nice change.
The turquoise floral is a cotton jersey knit from Girl Charlee, and I can’t help feeling Springy while wearing this fabric! Don’t remind me that it’s still February.
I decided to add leather detailing (after Lola’s dress I think I’m addicted to leather detailing) for the pocket, and I also added sleeve tabs out of the same purple suede. I love how they turned out. The purple and turquoise remind me of the “L.A. Gear” high tops (remember those?!) I had when I was young, which makes me like the color combo even more.
This was a super quick sew, especially because adding the bands meant no hemming at all! I even left off the topstitching on the neckband, so I was able to sew the whole top on my serger, with the exception of the leather details (I used a size 14 ball point needle for that and it worked well).
This is such a comfortable top that I know will get a ton of use.
