A Dress for Hattie (and upcoming pattern!)
This design is one that I’ve been slowly working on for a looong time, and after the Airdrie Bag Pattern was released, I dropped everything else on my to do list to finally make it a priority! I would love to get this pattern released before Christmas, but won’t hold my breath on that one…
There’s something about a sweetheart yoke that I just love.
It’s feminine, classic, and depending on the fabrics, can suit almost any style, from vintage to modern.
A friend recently gave me a pile of vintage metal zippers that had been given to her, and I knew the orange would be perfect as an exposed zipper. Is there anything that makes a sewist more giddy than being given vintage notions? I think not. Be warned, you’ll be seeing those zippers on everything I make for the next long while.
Both fabrics were from my stash. The brown herringbone suiting was from fabric.com and leftover from a Schoolboy Vest, and I purchased the floral a couple years ago at Jo-Ann with plans to make it into a skirt for myself (which obviously didn’t happen).
Since making this version, I’ve made a few necessary tweaks to the pattern and construction, but overall this little dress turned out just as I imagined it.
Lola’s asking for one for her now, with “stars and cats and pink and bunnies and candy and unicorns and flowers and sparkles” (direct quote, although I think I may have missed a couple items ;)). Wish me luck on that one…
It’s so cute! Love your pictures too! That bokeh is dreamy!
That is really cute! I love sweetheart bodices, and I like that the back has some piecing too. That floral fabric is perfect!
Thank you so much Charity!
The CUTENESS!!! Just what I needed today. I am thinking this would be one knockout women’s dress too (hint hint).
Just adorable.
And your comment is just what I needed today, Michelle :). You are the best.
Such a classy dress for little girls, love, love, love it !!
