Dresser: Before
Here it is. ย Joel found this dresser for $10 on KSL and I told him to buy it before I even looked at a picture. ย I figured for $10, if I hated it, we could give it away or resell it easy enough. ย Surprisingly, I was excited when he brought it home. ย I thought it would be great for a first attempt at refinishing a dresser. ย No small details to worry about, basically flat and simple. ย At least that’s what I say now (Linsday, luckily I know myself too well to know that I’m too lazy to deal with anything more intricate). ย So now the hard part is deciding what to do with the thing. ย Definately new handles of course, but what color of paint? ย I’m thinking maybe leaving it black (which would simplify the process a lot), or maybe a cute green with glass pulls. ย I’d like to try antiquing it too. ย I also have some crazy images in my head of damask wallpaper on the drawer fronts, or maybe just on the top. ย Too much? ย Any suggestions? ย I’d love to hear your ideas!

What an awesome find! I am so jealous!!
As for the redoing it…I’ve never done one before but have always wanted to! I love the antiquing idea–adorable! What other colors are in the room where this will be going?
ohh, such a great find! good job joel! Andy hate it when i bring home “junk” like that. but i think he is still surprized everytime when it actually looks good in the end.
black would look great, but i think a martha stewart green (okay, maybe you don’t know what i’m talking about but just think “what would martha do?”)would be super cute. i think you should put a super cute wall paper on the inside of the drawers ( i know, no one sees it but i love having cute insides to drawers, it makes it so much funner to get stuff out of them.
i also think wall paper on the top or the outside of the drawers would be sooo cute.
painting it cream or blue (again a martha blue) would be so cute too.
i wish you luck on deciding what to do…
i can’t wait to see the after pic, get to work abby!
I love KSL and wish we had it here! It seems like craigslist is usually over-priced junk. Oh well, I guess you learn to make do. I think a green would be nice and I love the idea of putting something different on the drawers.
Good luck. I can’t wait to see it when it’s done!
a couple months ago, martha stewart living had some great ideas for refinishing with color and patterns. they did a gingham print, faux wood pattern, herringbone… and all with color. check it out! here is the link to all the techniques: http://www.marthastewart.com/article/special-effects?
by the way… I love your blog… and your SIL’s… Can I ask why you’ve had to move so much? is it job related? My husband is a football coach so I will be feeling your pain soon… coaches tend to move a lot!
Awww…seeing that makes me miss you. It was so great to spend time with you and your little boys! I guess Becca and Weston will have to get to know eachother next time when they’re not both sleeping the whole time. Love you!–SaraLyn
