Free Heart Purse Sewing Pattern

You may have seen the DIY heart purse I made using my Cricut Maker to cut the fabric pieces a number of years ago, and since that time I’ve wanted to share a PDF version of the pattern for all my non-Cricut using sewing friends. And if that’s you, yay! Today’s the day! This free heart purse sewing pattern is such a fun and satisfying sewing project, perfect for Valentine’s Day and beyond!

I’m also sharing a full video tutorial to guide you from start to finish, and if you’d like to follow along with photo instructions rather than the video, you can do that over on the Cricut based blog post.

Once the pieces are cut out, the sewing process is the same, with the exception of the strap for today’s version is a little shorter, just based on my current personal preference and the fact that it was simple to cut it the length of the width of fabric :).

It’s a fun sewing project that works for all ages depending on the fabrics you choose. I’ve enjoyed making both little-girly versions and also this blue floral version that my now teen and tween girls love.

This free heart purse sewing pattern is also a great scrap buster! You only need about a half yard of main fabric, and a fat quarter of lining.

You’ll also need a 6″ or longer zipper, fusible interfacing, and fusible fleece. I love using fusible fleece for sewing bags and purses because it gives them body and structure while still being soft and cozy.

The construction for the inside of this purse might be a little different than you’ve done before, but I love it because it gives a totally clean finish inside and out, with no raw edges visible or binding needed. It’s quite simple but trust the process and you’ll do great! It’s the same technique that I use on the free lip purse pattern that I added to the list below.

Skill Level
While I may not recommend this heart purse project for yourย very first sewing project (although I would never say don’t try!), if you’re a confident beginner then you’ll be set. The trickiest part is sewing the curves, but this is a great project to learn that skill so don’t let it scare you away!
