Monogram Ruffle Binding Baby Quilt

We have the best next door neighbors, and when they had a new baby girl recently, I was excited to get to sew a baby quilt for them. I wanted to do something minimalist but still special, so ended up designing a large monogram baby quilt with ruffle binding.

And when I say baby quilt, perhaps toddler quilt is more accurate as it’s on the larger size for a baby quilt at 40″x50″.

I penciled out the quilt blocks for the monogram C, and used as large of pieces as possible for both the C and the background floral, which made piecing it all together pretty quick and simple. Well, Iย did have to redo the half square triangles not once, not twice, but THREE times before I had the flowers all facing the correct directions in the corners of the C, but that was a good learning experience. It might have occurred right after telling my daughters how fun and easy half square triangles are. Spoke a little too soon I guess…

I love watching others’ do their quilt reveals on social media and got to do my own first “quilt drop” with this baby quilt! I’ll attach my video below if you want to watch it!
@sewmuchado My first quilt drop! I designed and sewed this monogram quilt for the adorable new baby next door. The ruffle binding was a new technique for me but I love how it turned out! All the fabrics are from @Hobby Lobby, sewn and quilted on my @Janome America Skyline S5. #quilting #sewingtiktok #quiltingtiktok #hobbylobby #janome โฌ ์ค๋ฆฌ์ง๋ ์ฌ์ด๋ – ๋๋ง๋ฃGO – ๊น์ผ์ธ music
I found all of the fabrics at Hobby Lobby, and Lola helped me pick them out. I love having teenage daughters who are better at things than me!

The ruffle binding was a new technique for me to learn, and after watching a few tutorials online, and doing a few things differently not on purpose ;), I do love how it turned out.

The binding on the back of the quilt is a little wider than normal, which was the result of one of those not on purpose things I did, but in the end it was a happy accident as the bulk from the ruffles could definitely use the extra width.

I love hand stitching binding, but decided to machine stitch it this time to add extra security with all the ruffles bulk.
